First Greek stakeholder meeting
November 20, 2014

The first stakeholder meeting for the development of low-carbon policy papers was organised by NOA and took place in Athens, Greece, in the morning of November 20, 2014, at the premises of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change (YPEKA).

The meeting focused on low-carbon policies in the power supply sector. This sector, together with the buildings and transport sectors, are responsible for a significant share of GHG emissions in Greece, making them key sectors for the development and implementation of low-carbon policies in the period 2030-2050. The meeting was attended by 14 participants from NOA; the Public Power Corporation; Renewables S.A.; Facets S.A.; the National Technical University of Athens; the Federation of Recycling and Energy Recovery Industries and Enterprises; YPEKA's Department for the Planning and Coordination of the National Strategic Reference Framework Co-financed Actions "Energy, Natural Resources and Climate Change Sectors"; Rokas S.A./Iberdrola S.A.; the Hellenic Association for Wind Energy; and GIZ GmbH.

The four main topics discussed in relation to the power supply sector were the current progress towards compliance with the 20-20-20 targets for Greece; the effectiveness of the policies and measures included in the National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) and the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP); the feasibility of achieving the national targets for 2030 proposed in the EC Impact Assessment of the 2020-2030 climate and energy policy framework; and whether the existing policies and measures included in the Greek 2050 Energy Roadmap published in 2012 are sufficient for reaching the 2030 and 2050 targets, and, if not, how these must be enhanced or complemented.
