Second Greek National Working Group
December 3, 2013

The second meeting of the Greek National Working Group on Low-Carbon Policies took place at the Ministry for Environment, Energy and Climate Change in Athens on December 3, 2013. Thirteen of the 18 working group members attended the meeting, which was chaired by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the LOCSEE leader in Greece.

Firstly, the outcome of the recent COP19, held in Warsaw, Poland, and its potential effects on future GHG emissions reduction targets were analysed. Discussions then moved on to good practices in the implementation of low?carbon policies. Working group members agreed that three policy examples from Greece (solar collectors for heating purposes; the PVs on Rooftops programme; and the Energy Efficiency in Household Buildings programme) can be considered as good practice examples. Additional examples were proposed for further consideration by the group.

The working group then addressed the issue of policy paper(s) for low-carbon progress in Greece for 2030?2050. Discussions took place on each of the available policy papers and the working group agreed to look more closely at these papers by the next meeting with a view to examining whether they can meet the challenges faced by Greece in moving towards a low-carbon society by 2030?2050.

Finally, working group members agreed on forthcoming meetings and activities. It was agreed that the third meeting of the working group will take place by the middle of March 2014.
