Second Hungarian National Working Group
December 4, 2013

The second meeting of the Hungarian National Working Group took place on December 4, 2013, at the premises of the National Council for Sustainable Development Secretariat in Budapest. Participants included representatives of the Ministry for National Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Council for Sustainable Development, the Hungarian Meteorological Institute, Szent Istvan University, Corvinus University Budapest, the local government of Godollo, the NGO Clean Air and the National Adaptation Centre, as well as the advisor to the parliamentary committees.

The Regional Centre for Energy Policy Research (REKK) and the Regional Environmental Center (REC) attended the meeting as project partners. Experiences gained during the public hearing for the new National Climate Change Strategy were shared at the meeting, which also provided an opportunity for a discussion of the reports and assessments of participants at COP19 in Warsaw and progress achieved in the LOCSEE project over the last six months. The two project partners presented finalised good practices from Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, as well as good practice examples under development from Hungary and Estonia.

The structure and main findings of the regional state-of-the-art analysis were presented, along with an assessment of the climate change policies of the 10 countries taking part in LOCSEE. Participants engaged in lively discussions on enhancing the role of local governments in Hungary. Good practice examples from projects implemented in Hungary were highlighted, with an emphasis on identifying good practices as a means of providing guidance to developing countries both within and outside Europe.
