First Greek National Working Group
May 17, 2013

The first meeting of the Greek National Working Group on Low-Carbon Policies took place in Athens at the premises of the Ministry for Environment, Energy and Climate Change on May 17, 2013. Fourteen of the 18 working group members attended the meeting, which was chaired by a representative of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA).

The team from NOA presented the aims and content of the LOCSEE project and described the expected contribution of the national working groups towards enhancing cooperation between national and regional authorities/organisations dealing with low-carbon policies in various sectors (including energy, waste, industry, physical planning, transport, forestry, agriculture). A state-of-the-art report on climate change in Greece, compiled by NOA, was also presented to participants and formed the basis of a fruitful discussion on the implementation of low-carbon policies in Greece and prospects for moving towards a low-carbon society by 2030 and 2050. Possible ways and means of transferring technical expertise in EU acceding, candidate and potential candidate counties were also discussed. Working group members made plans for future meetings and activities: the second meeting is due to take place in mid-September 2013.
