First meeting of the Slovenian National Working Group
July 15, 2014

The first meeting of the Slovenian National Working Group (NWG) on Low-Carbon Policies was held on July 15, 2014, at the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment in Ljubljana. The 15 participants included representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment (MKO), the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning, the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, the Jozef Stefan Institute, the Slovenian Environment Agency and the Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development.

In the first part of the session, representatives of the MKO presented general information about current activities within the MKO. Uros Vajgl welcomed the participants and highlighted the ministry's main activities in the field of low-carbon policies. Nives Nared described the operational programme for reducing greenhouse gas emissions until 2020, which is almost ready for adoption by the government. Barbara Simonic presented the LOCSEE project (partners, aims and purpose), the project work packages and the role of the NWG. In the second part of the meeting, representatives of the Jozef Stefan Institute presented the system that has been established for monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of operational programme measures. This task is being carried out as one of the activities under Work Package 6 of the LOCSEE project.

Participants also had an opportunity to discuss cross-sectoral cooperation, and at the end of the session were informed about the forthcoming meetings and activities of the NWG, including a meeting of the Regional Policy Network in Athens, Greece, in October, to which they were all invited. The second NWG meeting will take place in mid-September 2014.
